‘Lead the Way’ Hosting National Voter Registration Day

vote-806.jpgABC News– Beginning at 8:3AM EST, Tuesday, September 27, 2016, Lead the Way will host National Voter Registration Day 2016 events at 1400 Greene Street, Strom Thurmond Fitness Center, the Darla Moore School of Business, and more as part of a massive 50-state effort to register thousands of voters.

2016 will be a historic election year. The goal for the 2016 National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come out to the polls this November.

As Executive Director of Lead the Way, Cory Alpert says, “Lead the Way is proving that young people are about our government and being involved in our society.  Lead the Way is a voter registration campaign for the 21st century, utilizing technology and enthusiasm in new ways to bring more people into the political conversation.”

As a non-partisan unofficial national holiday, National Voter Registration Day counts on thousands of partners and volunteers across the political spectrum. Lead the Way is fortunate to be one of twenty national flagship partners for National Voter Registration Day, and of those twenty is the only student-led initative.  Other partners include organizations such as Tumblr, Huffington Post, Snapchat, MTV, and more.

Other partners include members of the community, such as Mayor Benjamin of Columbia who said “with the election coming up, I’m excited about USC’s Leadthe Way campaign as they work to register students, faculty and staff. Voting is one’s civic duty and a right not everyone has, so it’s important for everyone to exercise his/her right to do so.”
