Where you can get glasses for the upcoming solar eclipse
Columbia, SC (WOLO) — This coming Monday, April 8, 2024 a solar eclipse will be visible, at least partially, here in the Midlands, but as we’ve reported, you will need special glasses to view it.
So where do you get them? There are a few places in South Carolina where you can make sure you are ready for next week’s viewing.
According to the eyeglasses company, Warby Parker, you can a free pair of eclipse-safe glasses. You can also get a free pair of the AAS approved glasses at participating Sonic locations when you purchase the Sonic Blackout Slush Float.
If you strike out and would prefer to purchase them instead, you can head to online locations like EBay and Amazon who is offering free shipping and handling. You can also buy the needed specs at places like Target, Walmart, and Staples while supplies last.
Since viewing for the solar eclipse is right around the corner, you can forgo buying the apparatus and have a little fun with a DIY. NASA and the company MyEyDr both have step by step directions on how you can make glasses or even a pinhole projector from the comfort of your own home, office or classroom. The Sumter Police Department posted some additional information with times you should expect to see the eclipse from it’s start, the point of totality and what time it ends.
