Lexington, SC (WOLO) — The Lexington Police Department is asking you to be aware of a phone scam making the rounds. Officials say they received multiple complaints Friday from area citizens who say they took telephone calls where the caller threatened arrest unless a fine was paid, or until the person agrees to meet with the caller via the phone.

Lexington Police say they do not recommend you act on either of these requests.

LPD says they want residents to be aware that they will never call you on the telephone and offer a fee in order for you to get out an arrest warrant. Just the same, Police say they will never ask a person to meet them at any location to discuss an arrest warrant unless it is the police department. If you happen to take a call like this police say hang up and report it to law enforcement with as much detailed information as you can remember.
