Keenan High School student shot in restaurant parking lot over the weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police asking for public’s help as they continue to investigate a fatal weekend shooting, says CPD.

Investigators say the victim of the shooting was identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as 16-year-old Julian Armel Keel.

Keel was shot and killed around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the 1400 block of Colonial Life Boulevard in ‘Roll-Out Wangz, Eggrollz and Thangz’ Bar and Restaurant parking lot.

Columbia PD says between Saturday, June 1, and the early morning on Sunday, June 2, a large groups of teenagers were attending a graduation party at the venue.

An investigation determined that an altercation in the parking lot led to shots being fired, say police.

The investigation also found that more than 50 rounds were fired from at least four different firearms during the shooting.

Reportedly the rising Keenan High senior and three-sport athlete Julian Keel was trying to leave the event when he was shot in the upper body area.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

CPD investigators believe Keel was an innocent bystander and was not involved in the initial altercation at the time of the shooting.

Police Chief W. H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook is requesting the public’s assistance as investigators continue to gather witness information regarding the incident.
