Absentee Voting Up According to SC Election Commission
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – While the presidential contest between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump tops South Carolina’s ballot, voters will also choose whether U.S. Sen. Tim Scott and seven U.S. House incumbents return to Washington.
Absentee voting has already broken the record previously set in 2012, when nearly 395,000 people voted absentee either in person or by mail.
According to the state Election Commission, nearly 463,000 South Carolinians had voted by mid-day Monday. That’s 29 percent more than mid-day before Election Day four years ago.
But it’s impossible to know who the numbers favor because voters do not register by party in South Carolina.
All 170 legislative seats were up for election this year. But the big contests were during the June primaries. Only 19 House members and five senators face major-party challengers Tuesday.
