Alvin S. Glenn detainee dead after medical emergency
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– An Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center detainee has died following a medical emergency, said Richland County officials.
On Monday, July 22, a man was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on charges of possession with intent to distribute.
On Thursday, July 25, the man was taken from the detention center to Prisma Health Hospital due to a medical emergency.
Officials said, on Saturday, July 27, around 9:36 p.m., the detention center’s staff was informed that the man was acutely ill and had gone into cardiac arrest.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as 71-year-old Roderick Samuels.
Also, officials said despite the efforts of the hospital staff, the detainee was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28.
