Fort Jackson drill sergeant found unresponsive at home

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WOLO)– According to Fort Jackson, a 34-year-old drill sergeant was found unresponsive in his home and was later pronounced deceased.

Staff Sgt. Corey R. Brown from the 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment was found unresponsive in his High Point, North Carolina home on Sunday, July 28.

Army officials said Brown served for more than 13 years, and his awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (7), Army Good Conduct Medal (4), and the National Defense Service Medal.

“This is a solemn day for Team Jackson as we mourn the loss of a teammate and friend. We are providing comfort and assistance to his family and fellow cadre members and extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew him,” said Fort Jackson Commander, Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly.

His cause of death is undetermined at this time, according to Fort Jackson.
