Moms Push for Stronger and Safer Gun Laws at State House
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- A group of South Carolina mothers want to change the law which they say allowed Dylann Roof to purchase the gun used in the Charleston Massacre.
A sea of red shirts filled the State House lobby as the group Everytown for Gun Safety attempted to promote gun sense legislation.
The South Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense has a strong presence within the group. Members are urging lawmakers to promote stronger background checks for gun purchases, hoping to prevent incidents like the Emanuel AME shooting in Charleston.
“I want to see them close the Charleston loophole. We have so many people that we have lost to gun violence including the nine people that died in that church, in that scared space, in their memory, in honor of them and all the other people we lost to gun violence, we want to see something done,” said Melody McFadden.
Group members insist that they are not out to take away anyone’s guns. They say they are simply advocating for stronger and safer gun regulations.
