NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County Sheriff’s Deputies are advising residents about scam calls, says the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office says people are presenting themselves as Newberry County Sheriff’s Deputies and calling residents about being arrested for missing jury duty.

Deputies say the callers give name of deputies, who are employees and some are not when they make the calls, and tell people to avoid being arrested they would need to pay a fine via telephone.

Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says that will never happen if you miss jury duty.

Residents are advised to not send gift cards or money orders.
