Governor’s Summit addresses issues facing SC veterans
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — The South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs held its annual meeting this morning with Governor Henry McMaster.
The agency discussed its yearly goals for how to help anyone who has served our country.
With almost 400,00 veterans living in the Palmetto State, the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs assists them with accessing services.
Thursday, the agency held its annual Governor’s Summit in downtown Columbia alongside elected leaders, veterans services and local organizations.
One of the jobs the agency will be adding on this year is taking charge of veterans homes.
Another of the department’s many goals is helping veterans at risk of homelessness.
Secretary Todd McCaffrey says he is pleased with the support from the General Assembly but says there are other ways that lawmakers can also help attract veterans to South Carolina.
One of those is expanding services to veterans who live in rural parts of the state.
