SCDC: Former correctional officer charged with misconduct in office after sending money to inmates

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A former correctional officer is being charged with misconduct in office after sending money to inmates, said SCDC.

According to an arrest warrant from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, 25-year-old Arieyelle Shiquise Coulette of Sumter was charged with misconduct in office.

Coulette is accused of receiving more than $22,000 from inmates and sending more than $6,700 to inmates through cash apps.

Officials said from around Aug. 23, 2021, to Sept. 27, 2021, Coulette accepted around $22, 879 from SCDC inmates through Cash App.

She is also accused of receiving around $6, 790 to inmates.

During the time of the money being exchanged, she was employed by the SC Department of Corrections at the Turbeville Correctional Institution in Clarendon, County.
