Horry County students learn firefighting
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Ask a young boy what he wants to be when he grows up and he often says a firefighter.
The Sun News of Myrtle beach reports (http://bit.ly/qIbLnV ) that Horry County high school students can now take firefighter training.
The county school district’s Academy for Technology and Academics in Conway has an Emergency and Fire Management Services major. The program is a partnership between the district, Horry County Fire Rescue, the Boy Scouts of America and the South Carolina Fire Academy.
The two-year major allows graduates to take fire certification tests on their 18th birthdays.
Certified firefighters have the opportunity for jobs as professional firefighters, in related fields or as volunteer firefighters.
