Arrest made in death of man found buried in woods

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — State agents have arrested a suspect in the death of a man found buried in woods near Blackville.

The State Law Enforcement Division announced Wednesday that 40-year-old Sammie Gerrick was charged with murder in the death last month of 40-year-old Tyrone Donaldson.

SLED agents say Gerrick killed the victim four weeks ago, buried his body, then drove Donaldson’s car to a vacant restaurant parking lot.

Investigators didn’t release how Donaldson died or why he might have been killed.

Donaldson was a widowed father of four. His wife died in a car wreck in 2009.

It wasn’t clear if Gerrick had an attorney.
