A very little guy with a great big heart
How a 5-year-old made all the difference in the world for a Pelion policeman
PELION SC (WOLO)-A pack of Slim-Jims, 2 bags of chips, and a 2 liter bottle of Coke. Not exactly the breakfast of champions, but for first police officers, who often simply snack between calls, rather than having the time to sit down for a well balanced meal, which is why a small gesture can go a long way.
“I was working an event,” says Pelion Police Captain Tim Wilke, “when this young man walked up.” What happened next was purly genuine moment between a 5-year-old boy and a cop.
“I like police officers, I buy them lunch,” says Mason Geisler. Mason’s mother Amy explains that Mason has wanted to be a police officer since he could talk, and loves everything about them.
Captain Wilke wasn’t the only Pelion police officer Mason has met. “I was at the hardware store on a service call, “Chief Chris Garner says with a smile, “Mason came up, offered me a lollipop and thanked me…He has really touched our heart.”
While Mason may be a few years away from attending training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, he won’t have to wait long to ride around in a patrol car. Chief Garner has invited Mason to join the Department in the annual Peanut Parade on August 11th.
