COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — It’s a parent’s worst nightmare, you’re out shopping or in public and your child vanishes, completely out of sight and you can’t find them. “When you’re in a devastating situation, you are automatically going to lose train of thought. So this right here, will help you keep your train of thought, because everything will be right there,” says Denise Taiste, Public Affairs Specialist with the FBI. Recently, the FBI launched a new app called the FBI Child ID App. “This is a way that parents can immediately inform police, because they will have pictures on hand, they’ll be able to have DNA and everything about their child on hand, through the app,” says Taiste. That’s right, DNA, through the app, you can actually list your child’s blood type, along with much more. “Color of hair, color of eyes, blood type, is the child sickly,” says Taiste. To get the app, all you have to do is log on to I-tunes, type in FBI Child ID app and upload it to your I-phone. There you can enter your child’s information and also find information on how to keep your child out of harm’s way. And it’s all at no cost to you. But exactly, where does the information go? “It doesn not come to the FBI, it doesn’t go to ITUNES, it’s strictly in their phone and it’s just used for the purpose of providing information to police,” says Taiste. Those little details that could help police bring your child home safe, faster. “Quick response, there’s no delayed response, oh let me run home and get a picture, oh let me check the medical records,” says Taiste. The app is currently only available on the I-phone. The FBI is working to get the app on other phones, but there’s no timeline for when those apps will be available.
