Gilbert man gets 9 years in fatal DUI crash

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — A Gilbert man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a 6-year-old girl on New Year’s Day 2012.

Twenty-eight-year-old Billy Patrick Hutto Jr. pleaded guilty Monday in Lexington.

Six-year-old Emma Longstreet of Lexington died and her father was hurt in the crash as they headed to church.

Defense attorney Marion Moses says Hutto made a poor choice to drive home after just a few hours of sleep

Prosecutors say Hutto had a blood alcohol level of nearly 0.21 percent. The legal limit in South Carolina 0.08 percent.

Hutto will receive credit for the 18 months he spent in jail after his arrest.
