SC’s AG endorses GOP presidential hopeful Huntsman

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Jon Hunstman has been endorsed by South Carolina’s attorney general.

Attorney General Alan Wilson said Monday he’s backing Huntsman because he likes his record over his two terms as governor of Utah, and because he was ambassador to China and earlier to Singapore.

Wilson says it’s vitally important that the next president understand China and the trickiness of dealing with that world power.

Wilson says he’s also supporting Huntsman because he believes he’s a fiscal conservative who can appeal to voters in the general election against President Barack Obama.

The Republican attorney general becomes South Carolina’s first statewide officer to endorse a 2012 White House hopeful.

Huntsman has trailed far behind in the polls. But he says polls can be misleading this far from the election.
