SC lawmakers pass Fentanyl-Induced Homicide Bill
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The gavel came down on this year’s legislative session Thursday, May 9, but not before lawmakers passed several bills.
Among those was a bill to help the state’s fight against fentanyl.
The Fentanyl-Induced Homicide Act establishes a new felony offense for those who unlawfully distribute fentanyl or fentanyl-related substances that result in another person’s death.
Convictions carry penalties of up to 30 years in prison.
According to Attorney General Alan Wilson, South Carolina has seized more than 140 kilograms of fentanyl which is enough to kill millions.
The bill now heads to Governor McMaster’s desk.
