Columbia PD investigating after 7-year-old shot while attending athletic event
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia PD is investigating after a 7-year-old girl was shot while attending an athletic event over the weekend, said officers.
Officers said the little girl was injured in the wrist while at an athletic event at the Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Center on Sunday, June 22, shortly before 7 p.m.
She was treated, and released from a hospital shortly after the incident.
Also, police said the shooting does not appear to be an intentional act.
Investigators are continuing to review surveillance video and conduct interviews to determine the circumstances, and where the shot originated.
Police do not believe the incident happened on the soccer field (Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Center) but likely 3-700 yards away, possibly outside the city limits.
