COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A top official…here locally…is stepping down from his position.

Here is the statement that we received from the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism Board of Directors:

“Ric Luber announced Tuesday that he will resign effective December 31, 2013 as president and CEO of Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism. Current Midlands Authority Board of Directors Chairman, Bill Ellen, officially resigned from his post today, as both chair and member, and accepted the position of interim President and CEO of Midlands Authority effective immediately. Vice Chairman, John Hardee, will now serve as chairman of the board of directors.

Bill Ellen steps into this role having developed a longstanding relationship with Midlands Authority over the years. Ellen has extensive business and hospitality experience, and will offer skilled guidance during this transition.

The Board of Directors wants to thank Ric for his tireless service to the organization, as well as the entire Columbia region. Because of his vision and leadership, Midlands Authority, including Columbia Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, Columbia Regional Sports Council and Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, has become a major economic driver for the community and will continue to be for many years to come.
