SC seeks applications for recreation funds

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking applications from local and state agencies to develop outdoor recreation areas.

Money from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund allows a 50 percent match for such projects.

Projects developed with the help of such grants must forever be used for outdoor recreation. The maximum amount for most projects is $250,000 although those determined to have regional or statewide significant are eligible for up to a half million dollars.

Since the program was established almost 50 years ago, more than $60 million in grants have been made for 1,100 parks and outdoor recreation areas statewide.
