Evette calls out Greenwood for “political correctness” after city scraps “Christmas Through The Colonies” parade theme
GREENWOOD, SC (WOLO) — The City of Greenwood released a statement on Thursday stating its “Christmas Through The Colonies” theme would be scrapped for this year’s Christmas parade because it “evoked painful emotions for many members of the Greenwood community.”
Greenwood says the 1776 theme with “Santa suits, powdered wigs, parading patriots, and Christmas spirit” was intended to be a “celebration of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.” The city says it will have a new parade theme that reflects “unity and inclusiveness.”
Lt. Gov. and candidate for governor Pamela Evette says in a statement, “This decision by the city of Greenwood doesn’t reflect the values of the God-fearing, freedom-loving patriots who call Greenwood home,” said Evette. “During my time as Lieutenant Governor,I’ve visited Greenwood’s Veterans Center, first responders, small business owners, and hardworking families — all of whom love God and our country.
We should never use taxpayer dollars to erase history, tear down traditions, or replace pride in America with political correctness. We should never be ashamed of being Americans, and South Carolina should lead the way in celebrating our independence and all God has done for our country. I urge the city of Greenwood to reverse this decision and honor the values that make America the greatest country in the world.
Greenwood’s decision is the latest example of the far-left’s attack on our values and traditions. South Carolina will not bow to political correctness or erase our history. Under conservative leadership, we will stand firm for God, country, and the principles that make America great.”
The new theme for the Christmas parade will be chosen at a later date.
