National Voter Registration Day — how to register for SC’s upcoming municipal elections
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) –Thousands mobilized across the country on Tuesday for “National Voter Registration Day.”
Over 3,000 nonpartisan events took place — including block parties, college fairs, and community drives.
According to the National Voter Registration Day’s website, combined efforts have led to over six million new voters registering since 2012.
The SC Election Commission is encouraging everyone to register as well — with around 200 local municipal elections happening across the state on November 4th.
“And so we’re encouraging people to register to vote because these local elections impact your daily life. You’re selecting candidates that make decisions about the things that impact you every single day, whether its roads you drive on, whether it’s the schools you send your kids to. These decisions matter so it’s important that you remember to register to vote, and if you’re registered to vote you can make sure your information is up to date,” says Sydni Bain with the SC Election Commission.
How to Register:
“You can register online at www.scvotes.gov, or you can register to vote in person at a county voter registration office, or you could register to vote by going on our website and downloading our voter registration application, you would then fill that out and return it by mail, fax, or by email,” says Bain.
The deadline to register for November’s elections is October 5th.
