COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Mangled metal is what’s left of Richland County Deputy Bob Furgal’s patrol car after a fiery crash last November. “From what I was told, there was a break-in, in progress. I was going to assist another deputy and somewhere in route, I was coming off a turn and I lost control of the vehicle and I was told it was hydra-planing. I woke up in a hospital bed the next day,” says Furgal Furgal, who spoke out for the first time Friday, has no memory of the accident. “I don’t remember being dispatched, I don’t remember losing control, I don’t remember any of it,” says Furgal He was first taken to a local hospital then transported to the Augusta Burn Center. “I have 3rd degree burns on both feet, burns on my shins and then all of my toes were amputated,” says Furgal Now recovered, Furgal is back on the job, one he loves, an opportunity he says he’s thankful for.
