59th Annual Governor’s Carolighting takes place at Statehouse

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — The 59th Annual Governor’s Carolighting took place at the Statehouse Sunday evening, with hundreds in attendance.

Governor Henry McMaster says the cherished tradition brings South Carolinians together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.

The program was emceed by Miss South Carolina Sarah Kay Wrenn, and featured a mix of traditional carols, performances by local artists and Fort Jackson’s 282nd Army Band Brass Quintet, and of course the lighting of SC’s official Christmas tree. Santa Claus also made a surprise visit to the Carolighting.

The 35-foot tree boasts over 13,000 lights and 900 ornaments all selected by local garden clubs. The tree will remain lit through the first week in January.
