No. 3/3 South Carolina earns first SEC road win 74-63 over Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Raven Johnson had 17 points and Joyce Edwards scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter as No. 3 South Carolina held on to win its 18th straight game over Florida 74-63 on Sunday.

South Carolina had a season-high 21 turnovers, shot less than 35% and were only up 53-48 with nine minutes left before Edwards got going. The team’s top scorer this season had made only one of five shots to that point, but hit baskets on three of the next six possessions as the Gamecocks opened a 66-56 lead. Tessa Johnson added a 3-pointer in that stretch.

Edwards finished with 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double this season. Madina Okot, a Mississippi State transfer, had 11 points and 17 rebounds for her 11th double-double South Carolina. Tessa Johnson scored 15 points and had three of the Gamecocks’ five 3-pointers.

Liv McGill had 18 points and seven rebounds for Florida.

  • All nine Gamecocks who hit the floor got on the board, with four tallying double-figure points and two of those finishing with double-doubles.
  • South Carolina was dominant on the glass, grabbing a new season high of 59 rebounds.
  • Madina Okot finished with her 11th double-double of the season, netting 12 points and grabbing a career-high 10 offensive boards as part of her 17 rebounds. The 10 offensive boards tie for the most for a Gamecock in an SEC game in program history. Her five steals also tied a career-high, marking the most during her time at South Carolina so far.
  • Raven Johnson led the way in scoring for the first time this season, tying her season high of 17 points while grabbing six boards and dishing out two assists.
  • Joyce Edwards grabbed her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 10 boards to mark her 15th straight game with 10+ points this season.
  • Tessa Johnson tallied 15 points with three 3s, marking her third consecutive game with 10 or more points.
  • Maddy McDaniel tied her SEC career-high of six points and two steals, handing out a new SEC high of five assists along the way to lead the team for the first time this season.
