IRS making changes ahead of tax season
(CNN)– Big changes are happening at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as it enters its busiest season.
IRS Chief Executive Frank Bisignano is reorganizing the senior leadership structure with 16 executives reporting directly to him.
Bisignano also says the IRS must more aggressively lean into technology which could lead to a reduction in staffing.
That comes less than a year after Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency Cut more than 25,000 workers there.
Tax filing season begins Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.
