Skunk found in Saluda County tests positive for rabies

 

 

SALUDA COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A skunk found in Saluda County has tested positive for rabies, says the SC Dept. of Public Health.

Health officials say the rabies positive skunk was found near Ridge Spring Hwy and Seminole Drive.

One dog was exposed and will be quarantined as required in the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.

No people were exposed at this time, according to SCDPH.

The skunk was submitted to DPH’s laboratory for testing Feb. 25, 2026, and was confirmed to have rabies Feb. 26, 2026.

If you believe you, someone you know, or your pets have come in contact with this skunk or another animal that potentially has rabies, please call DPH’s Columbia office at (803) 896-4680 during normal business hours (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday) or after hours and on holidays at (888) 847-0902 (Select Option 2).
