Mortgage rates hit 6%

(CNN)– Mortgage rates in the U.S. didn’t stay below 6% for very long.

Rates dipped to 5.98% last week but have crept back up to 6%, according to Freddie Mac.

Last week was the first time rates had fallen below 6% since 2022.

The jump comes after the war with Iran impacted financial markets.

Despite this week’s increase, mortgage rates remain significantly lower than at the start of 2025, when they briefly climbed above 7%.
