Lexington One’s board vice chair resigns following husband’s arrest

LEXINGTON, SC (WOLO) — Beth Shealy, Board Vice Chair for The Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, has resigned from her position. The announcement comes days after her husband, 53-year-old Richard Shealy was arrested on 13 charges of allegedly possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material online, according to the SC Attorney General’s Office.

A statement from the school board reads, “The Lexington County School District Board of Trustees received the resignation of Board Vice Chair Beth Shealy, effective immediately. The Board and the district recognize that this is a difficult time for our community. We understand the emotions and questions this situation has raised for students, families, employees and community members. Our priority is and will always be the wellbeing of our students.

The Board will work with local and state election officials regarding the process for filling the vacancy. The Board of Trustees and the district remain committed to supporting our students, families and staff and to ensuring our schools continue to be safe, respectful and focused on learning. We are grateful for the continued trust of our community and remain focused on the work ahead.”

Shealy was a worship musician and singer in Lexington County. He was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center and granted a $150,000 bond. He posted bond on Friday morning.

Shealy faces multiple charges including second-degree to third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
