SLED confirms investigation into long-time State Representative Cobb-Hunter

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Investigators with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division say State Senator Harvey Peeler has requested the agency investigate allegations of misconduct involving Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter.

In a letter to SLED Chief Mark Keel, Senator Peeler writes that allegations were made during a committee hearing that Cobb-Hunter had attempted to secure line-item appropriations that would directly benefit her.

Attorney General candidate and Senator Stephen Goldfinch requested an ethics investigation over money that CASA Family Systems, the nonprofit Cobb-Hunter is head of,  received from the state budget.

During Tuesday’s Senate Finance Committee meeting, Goldfinch raised concerns over a $350,000 provision in the 2026-2027 budget for the non-profit’s Community Advocacy Program.

In a statement,  Cobb-Hunter writes, “This is performative politics at its worst. I have nothing to hide and I am looking forward to the SLED investigation. I hope that Senator Goldfinch and other members of the Senate and the House can withstand this same level of scrutiny.”
