Gamecocks Best Kentucky, 9-4, to Clinch Series Win
COLUMBIA – Talmadge LeCroy had three hits and drove in a pair and Brandon Stone picked up the win on the mound, striking out four in 5.2 innings as the University of South Carolina baseball team earned a series win with a 9-4 victory over Kentucky Saturday afternoon (April 25) at Founders Park.
Carolina scored a pair of unearned runs in the first as Dawson Harman’s fielder’s choice and throwing error plated two. Tyler Bak scored on a wild pitch in the third and Carolina made it 5-0 in the third on Luke Yuhasz’s sacrifice bunt and Bak’s RBI double.
Kentucky plated a pair in both the fifth and sixth frames, but the Gamecocks answered with single runs on run scoring hits from Patrick Evans and LeCroy. Carolina ended the scoring in the eighth with two runs on three hits, including a LeCroy RBI single to left, scoring Will Craddock.
Carolina had 11 hits on the day. Bak had two, joining LeCroy in the multi-hit club. Bak and LeCroy both drove in two runs.
Stone allowed six hits and four runs with no walks in 5.2 innings. Logan Prisco had a pair of strikeouts in his 1.2 frames and Zach Russell pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the series clinching win.
POSTGAME NOTES
- LeCroy now has 13 multi-hit games on the year, second on the team to KJ Scobey’s 14.
- Both teams left eight men on base.
- The Gamecocks had eight hits with runners on base in today’s win.
