Clarendon County deputies arrest 57-year-old for deadly motel shooting

CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WOLO) — Deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office say around 2:40 a.m. they responded to the Ashburn Inn at 5973 Alex Harvin Hwy (located in the Rambay area of Clarendon County) in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies say they found a male subject, who was later identified as George Antwan Ragin Jr. of Manning, dead from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Investigators say 57-year-old Willie Ray Nelson Jr. from Buffalo Junction, VA, has been arrested and identified as the suspect in the shooting.

Nelson Jr. was also arrested for outstanding warrants from Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office for unrelated charges. He is being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center, awaiting charges.
