RGA: Another Sheheen attack ad despite criticism

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Republican Governors Association has released a second round of television ads attacking state Sen. Vincent Sheheen for his previous work as a defense attorney, despite widespread criticism from lawyers in both parties who call that line of attack un-American.
Monday’s ad follows last week’s unprecedented move by the South Carolina Bar to launch a website defending the legal profession. The American Bar Association then released a letter to the RGA.
Others condemning the ads include former South Carolina Republican Attorney General Charlie Condon. He said Monday the second ad is very disappointing. Condon says Gov. Nikki Haley should call for the ads’ removal.
The latest ad involves Sheheen’s 1999 involvement in the case of an-18-year-old man who pleaded guilty to having sex with a girl between 14 and 16.
