One person dead in alleged attempted burglary in Kershaw Co.

KERSHAW, S.C.(WOLO) – Officials are investigating an incident in Kershaw County that left one person dead.

According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, just before 1 a.m. on Friday, deputies received multiple calls for help near Hilton Street in East Camden.

Authorities say when they arrived on scene, they found the complainant struggling on the ground with a suspect.

When deputies were able to separate the two men, they say the suspect was not responsive. He was later pronounced dead by EMS.

Officials say the complainant was cooperative and spoke with investigators.

He told deputies he saw the suspect trying to steal property at his grandfather’s home, and began chasing him on foot. The chase led to a physical confrontation between the two men.

The cause of death for the man is not known yet. Officials say he had a history of heart problems. An autopsy is planned for tomorrow morning.
