COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Dozens of local postal workers picketed outside area post offices urging state lawmakers to help protect their South Carolinians’ jobs and prevent post office closings. Chanting and holding up signs, dozens in Columbia participated with thousands of other United States Post Office employees nationwide, urging state lawmakers to adopt a bill, they believe, would prevent the closings of hundreds of post offices across the country and spare some 120,00 jobs. As part of the ‘Save The Postal Service’ rally, members of the local chapter of the American Postal Workers Union call on legislators to examine a Massachusetts piece of legislation and see if it will work in South Carolina. The proposed bill would return billions of dollars to the USPS so it could continue its operations. No word on whether state lawmakers will consider such a bill. protesters demonstrated in front of the offices of Democratic Congressman Jim Clyburn and Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, whose districts house local post offices.
