Fake kidnapping call leads to SC Amber Alert
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man called in a fake kidnapping report about his wife and child that led Anderson County deputies to issue a statewide alert.
Police say the 44-year-old man called them Tuesday night and said a man named Jim stole a car with his 24-year-old wife and 3-year-old son inside at an Anderson restaurant. Sheriff’s deputies then issued an Amber Alert.
But investigators found the woman safe at a man’s home in Hart County, Ga., around 2 a.m. Wednesday, and she said she brought the child there on her own.
Deputies say the man who made the kidnapping report is in custody and should be charged later with filing a false police report.
