Wilson Easily Wins 8th Term In 2nd District

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson easily won re-election to an eighth term in the House from South Carolina’s 2nd District on Tuesday, turning back a Democratic and third party challenger.
With about half of the results in, Wilson had 68 percent to about 30 percent for Phil Black, a retired federal Small Business Administration official from the Lake Murray area of Lexington County who ran as a Democrat.
Labor Party candidate Harold Geddings III was well back with about 2 percent of the vote.
Wilson served 17 years in the state Senate before he was first elected to the U.S. House in 2001 in a special election after longtime U.S. Rep. Floyd Spence died.
The district reaches from the Columbia area in the Midlands southwest to the Aiken area.
