Dorn helping homeless vets in Columbia get help

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Several groups are teaming up with the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center to help out Columbia-area veterans.
On Friday, the Dorn VA Medical Center is hosting Stand Down for the Homeless. It’s open to veterans and others who are homeless or at risk for homelessness, and being held at the Midlands Housing Alliance in Columbia from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers say the event is an effort to make sure veterans have food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and counseling on benefits. There are also referrals to a variety of other needed services.
