Continental Tire To Bring 1,700 Jobs To SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – “I told them if you take this chance on us, you will see the state of South Carolina wrap it’s arms around you,” says Governor Nikki Haley. Thursday, a pcaked audience at the Sumter Opera house gave Continental Tire a standing ovation and here’s why: “I am very pleased to announce today, that Continental Tire is planning to invest more than 500 million U.S. dollars to build a new tire plane here in Sumter,” says Nikolai Setzer of Continental Tire Governor Haley had just a few words to sum up the announcement. “It is a great day in South Carolina,” says Governor Haley. But, she also mentioned the reality of the company’s choice. “We have a great company in Continental Tire that could’ve picked any place in the country to go, and they are investing one 500 million dollars, 1700 jobs in Sumter, South Carolina,” says Governor Haley. Sumter isn’t the only county getting an economic boost. “We are also expanding our America tire plant in Lancaster County, South Carolina,” says Setzer. For which the company got even more praise, but they weren’t the only ones getting praise. “Governor you don’t just talk the talk, but you walk the walk,” says Eugene Baten, Sumter Councilman. Officials with Continental Tire say the added positions will become available within the next several years. North Carolina legislators told the StarNews of Wilmington on Tuesday that North Carolina lost a bid for the plant to South Carolina.
