Orangeburg, S.C. (WOLO) — Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton made her second campaign stop in the Palmetto State on Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of people turned out at the Santee Conference Center to listen to the former Secretary of State speak at a town hall style meeting with Santee community leaders. The Democratic presidential hopeful focused her message on childhood education and strengthening the economy. “I’m running to make our economy work for everyone,” said Clinton. “For every single American who is willing to work hard and do his or her part.” That message is a key part of her campaign, ‘to be a champion for everyday Americans.’ In South Carolina, she said more than fifty-percent of kids under 8 years old live in poverty. She added despite a booming manufacturing industry, low wages make it hard to get ahead. “If we work together to build an economy for tomorrow, not yesterday, we can make the I-95 corridor into the corridor of opportunity for everybody along the way,” said Clinton. Some members of the crowd also had an opportunity to challenge Clinton. They asked several questions ranging from topics of federal grants and foreign policy. After her speech in Santee, Clinton made her way to North Charleston to speak at Trident Technical College late Wednesday afternoon.
