Lexington County Coroner identifies suspect killed in officer involved shooting on I-26

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– On Monday, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the suspect who was killed in an officer involved shooting on I-26 East on Sunday. The coroner says 40-year-old Phillip John Walden, of Taylors, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect carjacked a victim on I-26 East near mile marker 60 and started a chase with law enforcement.

According to investigators, the suspect intentionally hit a deputy’s vehicle, driving him into a guardrail.

Deputies say the suspect was later fatally shot by officers at mile marker 91 & the deputies involved were not injured.
