Voter ID Law Focus of MLK Day Rally

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Hundreds of South Carolinians gathered at the State Capitol to hear leaders commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and at the same time, learn more about controversy over a constitutional right King worked so hard to protect: the right to vote. The South Carolina NAACP’s annual King Day at the Dome Rally began with a prayer breakfast. It was then followed by a six-block march and rally on the State House lawn. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder addressed the crowd, as well as National President and CEO of the NAACP, Ben Jealous, and State NAACP President, Dr. Lonnie Randolph. The theme of this year’s gathering is “Preserving Full Citizenship Rights in America.”
