New sponsor for Heritage may be announced

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is going to Hilton Head Island to make an announcement concerning the Heritage Classic golf tournament.

Town and tournament officials have said the announcement of a new title sponsor for the PGA event is imminent. Haley has set an early afternoon news conference Thursday on the resort island.

Town council meets today to consider buying TV spots for the tournament and that could signal a sponsorship deal is being closed.

The Heritage has been looking for a title sponsor since Verizon pulled out after last year’s tournament.
