COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — As the price at the pump hit its highest over the weekend, the average cost for a gallon of gas in the Palmetto State is still lower than the national average. However, petroleum experts say the increase will be felt far beyond the pump, nonetheless. The average cost of a gallon of gas in South Carolina is around $3.43, according to gasbuddy.com, while the national average is around $3.53. Local petroleum experts won’t speculate on whether the price could top $5 in a few weeks, but they will say the increase could impact the area of food distribution, travel and even the presidential election.
