Spartanburg sheriff’s deputy charged with DUI
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with driving under the influence after he was involved in a single-car accident.
Deputies say the South Carolina Highway Patrol notified them Sunday that Lt. Timothy Eric McKelvey had been arrested and was in the county jail.
Troopers said McKelvey was charged with DUI less than .10, open container of liquor in vehicle and expired vehicle tag. The legal blood alcohol limit in South Carolina is .08 percent.
Sheriff Chuck Wright says McKelvey was suspended and then resigned from his post as a regional commander on the uniform patrol division. It wasn’t known if the deputy had an attorney.
