Beating Victim Pleased with Assailant’s Sentence

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A Richland County judge sentenced Tyheem Henry, one of eight young people accused of beating a Columbia teen in Five Points in June 2011, to 15 years, and the victim says that’s a good ruling. Henry, who was 19 at the time of the crime, told the judge in tears that he never intended to hurt anyone. His mother also addressed the court, stating her son is not the monster he has been portrayed to be. An emotional Vicki Strange, mother of the beating victim, replied she was tired of hearing excuses about why Henry and seven others allegedly beat her son. However, Carter Strange, the victim, told ABC Columbia News he thinks Henry’s sentence is enough time. He added he hopes the suspects learn from their mistakes. Due to overwhelming attention, Carter has moved out of town and is still in therapy to deal the trauma of the beating.
