Trash Collection: Debris and Solid Waste Information

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Working to remove trash and debris from flooded areas is a tedious task, state and county officials are working on a plan and have given these tips. Governor Nikki Haley says when removing debris from your home separate debris into different piles, make sure it is not blocking road. EMERGENCY TRASH COLLECTION Richland County Curbside Collections Through Saturday: To help residents remove trash as soon as possible, Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling is working to pick up household garbage curbside through Saturday night. Crews will get to as many residences as they can. (This emergency service is for household garbage only. No recyclables.) Normal trash collection is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 12. LEXINGTON COUNTY LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C – Lexington County is in the planning process to provide roll-off containers in major affected areas for residents to dispose of storm debris. Residents in the Pineglen subdivision and the Wilton Hill Rd. area should contact the information line (785-2718 or 785-8613) to provide a location for placement. Containers will be placed and collected by waste collection firms. Accepted debris includes: one space·Wood and yard waste one space·Furniture one space·Construction materials, siding, shingles, etc. one space·Concrete/asphalt Please do not place household waste or hazardous waste in the containers. Special arrangements will be made for hazardous waste collection. Residents with curbside waste collection should place household waste in normal containers for collection. Residents not serviced by a curbside collection firm should use County Collection and Recycling Centers. A list of County Collection and Recycling Centers is available at www.lex-co.sc.gov under Solid Waste Management. Special arrangements will be made for the collection of hazardous waste. Sites to Dispose of Household Trash: Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling has large trash receptacles at several sites for residents to dispose of household garbage.
