The latest on recovery from city officials

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — According to Columbia City Manager Teresa Wilson the temporary dam at the Columbia Canal is complete. The dam was completed around 6pm Monday with an elevation of 150 ft nine days after the breach. Work on the dam will continue for the next six months to a year officials say. Asst. City Manager Missy Gentry said the canal plant is currently taking in 28 million gallons of water and discharging 20 million gallons per day. Gentry said the sewer plant is operational. According to Joey Jaco, the head of the city’s utilities and engineering department 40-50% of system no longer under boil water advisory. Officials are hoping for system wide lift in coming days Chief Skip Holbrook said there are still 29 road closures. A man was arrested after he allegedly rammed police barricades, officials say. Franz Joseph Coetzee has been charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for blue lights.
