SCDOT worker killed by dump truck in Darlington County

DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Troopers say a South Carolina Department of Transportation worker has been killed after he was hit by a dump truck on a Darlington County road.

Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins said the worker was walking in the road to another piece of equipment around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the dump truck backed into him.

The worker died a short time later. His name has not been released.

A special team of troopers is investigating the death and no charges have been filed.

This is the second state DOT worker to die in October. Authorities say 45-year-old Timothy Gibson drowned Oct. 4 when his DOT truck was washed away in the massive floods around Columbia.
